NATUROPATHIC & FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

Root-Cause Medicine for Your Gut, Hormones, and Whole-Body Health

Naturopathic and functional medicine that goes deeper than your last doctor's visit — because "your labs look normal" isn't the same as feeling well.

What makes this approach different?

Most conventional appointments last 15 minutes. There's rarely time to ask why your digestion is off, why your hormones feel chaotic, or why you're exhausted despite normal labs. Naturopathic and functional medicine were built to fill that gap.

At Open Wellness, Dr. Sand and Dr. Emrick combine the rigorous training of naturopathic medicine with the systems-based framework of functional medicine — two approaches that complement each other exceptionally well and together give us a fuller picture of what's driving your symptoms.

Naturopathic Medicine is a form of licensed primary care medicine. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) complete four years of graduate-level medical education — including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and minor surgery — alongside deep training in clinical nutrition, herbal medicine, and mind-body health. NDs are trained to treat the whole person, prevent disease, and identify the root causes of illness rather than simply managing symptoms.

Functional Medicine adds a systems-based lens, exploring how your gut, hormones, immune system, metabolism, and nervous system all interact. Rather than looking at each symptom in isolation, functional medicine asks: what's the underlying imbalance, and what does this person need to actually heal?

Together, these approaches allow us to partner with you in ways conventional medicine often doesn't have the time or tools to do.
